Mplayer Slackware 12.2, LG5600, svideo, euroscart, black and white only, nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M]

Posted in dragkh.wordpress.com - 5 d 22 h

In short, I wanted to let my son to watch some DVD movies at the LG TV set we got from Bulgaria here with us :)
So, long svideo + stereo jack sound to EuroScart cable from Toshiba Terca M5 and Slackware 12.2 to euroscart at TV set LG 5600 – you need to use the nVidia Xserver Settings control once the TV is connected.
The nVidia will autodetect the TV, you may set it either twinview either separate X screen, as I did in a view to work until the DVD movie has been playing.
Anyway, I was able to see the second screen on the TV, but it was black & white only.
Solution:
First, set the TV module Saturation value bigger than the original 0, for me the appropriate value is 90.
Second, you have to bridge some pins at the euroscart plug : consult with this URL

Wireshark and the Misbehaving Clients

Posted in packetracket.wordpress.com - 5 d 3 h

On Monday this past week, my co-worker was getting complaints of users not being able to connect via VPN the night before. It was only 2 users, so I figured it could’ve just been something flukey. Monday came and went. Tuesday came along and with it, brought the “snowpocalypse” as it was dubbed. The office was closed on Wednesday, and of course that’s when everyone wants to VPN in. Fast forward to about 10AM in the middle of said snowpocalypse.

The phone rings and its my boss who says there are a lot of people who can’t connect via VPN and RDP. The odd thing was that if you would try again in 20-30 minutes, chances are it would work perfectly. Weird? Yeah, but I didn’t think too much about it at first. I began some basic research into the issue, but couldn’t really come up with anything at the moment.

Is the Smartbook movement a problem?

Posted in songbirdmobile.wordpress.com - 5 d 3 h

Compaq Airlife 100

Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook runs Android

Recently I saw this new Smartbook on Engadget.  Its really nice except the fact that it is Compaq.  But then I realized.  There is a whole market for Android Tablets and Smartbooks.  These large screen devices are running android and can run Android’s apps.

When Songbird Mobile is made, how would it adapt to this screen size?  Would there have to be a new app?  If we make a built in ability to change to the screen size of a laptop or large tablet would the app’s performance drop or the size of the app increase due to compatibility with these large screens?

What do you think? (Multiple Choice)

[Ubuntu] Enable Flash in Songbird

Posted in semidevils.wordpress.com - 6 d 20 h

I absolutely love music (who doesn’t?) and I can’t live with out it. I gotta have that daily dose of air guitaring to Vinnie Moore in the morning to kick start my awesome day. And my weapon of choice on Ubuntu is the open-source, cross-platform Songbird; not only it’s a very competent audio player with all the cool add-ons and pretty ‘feathers’ (themes), it’s also a full-fledge web-browser built upon Firefox. Now that’s very cool until you hit up Youtube and find yourself staring at the infamous notification:
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Friday Fuckery: Gung Hay Fat Choy from That Annoying GOOP Lady

Posted in bicoastalbitchin.com - 6 d 20 h

This weekend is the New Year, so get ready to clean house, stash red pockets, and have random white people scream “Gung Hay Fat Choy!” at you. Kinda like Gwenyth Paltrow here. You may have heard of GOOP, her pretentious lifestyle newsletter that is choc full o’ helpful tips on the best $5000 spas, organic flax seed salads, and how to maintain a skeletor figure.

In GOOP’s latest “Year of the Tiger” issue — Gwinnie, with the help of some fancy New York White lady who is an “expert” and “scholar” in Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and “ancient texts”– offers sage advice on the meaning behind Chinese New Year and some other mystic Chinky stuff for your harmony and chi and blah blah New Age blah (Lainey Gossip also has a great commentary here).

Staying in Sync: Phone, PC and the Web

Posted in drabir.wordpress.com - 6 d 16 h

It seems that certain convoluted solutions that I prepare are actually not that convoluted after all. They actually provide some help to the people (The evidence is my poorly written Sony Ericsson HowTos which are still way popular than they should be). I therefore will now make an attempt to bestow some of my other technological messes.

Vim, NumPad Error via Putty

Posted in dudulz.wordpress.com - 6 d 7 h

Hmm.. Bingung deh mau bikin judul postingannya. Berikut gambarnya:

hinedo.c(在 hinedo-0.4.tar.bz2 解壓縮出來的資料夾裡)
play(在執行 Hinedo 後自動建立的 ~/.config/hinedo/ 裡)

Day 35

Posted in 100poundsproject.wordpress.com - 7 d 7 h

Wow, today came early. When Abby’s alarm went off at 5:45 in the morning, it felt like I had just laid down. We both laid there for a little bit while she debated not going. It’s always an option, yet never an option at the same time. Does that make sense? She’ll talk about not going, but as soon as I seriously say, “well, why don’t you just skip today?” she’ll say “I can’t,” then get up and start getting ready. I don’t know a lot of people who have that kind of determination once they’ve committed to something.

So after I dropped her off, I came home and immediately went back into bed. It was cold outside. I had to leave to catch the train at about 7:40, and I got back at about 6:50, so I set my alarm for 7… then 7:10… then 7:20 before I finally convinced myself that was the latest I could go to where I had enough time to shower, get dressed, pack my stuff for today, then make the train. I made it, of course.
